My research focuses on the cognitive, psychological and motivational aspects of reward systems, including moderators of reward effectiveness, implications for leadership, how rewards translate across cultures and the intercultural challenges in managing reward systems.

I'm currently exploring this topic from several perspectives...

  • The importance of distribution rules for work teams

The importance of equity-based reward distributions to team members and how this changes over time as trust evolves.

  • The meaning of money across cultures

A critical review of the research to date on pay effectiveness across cultures.

  • Individual factors that influence perception of reward policy fairness

The role of equity sensitivity, self-uncertainty and self-interest in determining attitudes towards reward policies.

  • Connecting performance pay and work stress

Specific ways in which performance pay influences employee stress and ultimately work performance.

  • Uncertainty, ambiguity and leadership effectiveness

A model of when to emphasize the contingent reward and transformational aspects of leadership.

  • Triggering equity concerns

Identification of conditions that systematically prompt individuals to evaluate the appropriateness of their reward.
